Adam L. Shimer, MD

Dr. Adam Shimer is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia Health System, specializing in spinal surgery.
Dr. Shimer received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine before completing his completed orthopaedic residency at the University of Pittsburgh and a spinal surgery fellowship at the Rothman Institute of Philadelphia. During his residency and fellowship, Dr. Shimer won several awards, including an honor for best basic science paper from AO Spine North America and an Outstanding Paper Award from the North American Spine Society/The Spine Journal.
A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Shimer specializes in minimally invasive treatment of spine conditions, complex cervical spine conditions and adult spinal deformities.
His basic science research has been in the area of genetic and cellular treatment of degenerative disc disease.
